About the hydraulic force calculator
Estimate the extend force of a hydraulic cylinder from system pressure and bore diameter using F = P × A.
How it works
Pressure and bore diameter are converted to SI units internally. Piston area A = π/4 × D² is multiplied by pressure to get force, then converted to your chosen output unit.
When to use it
Quick sizing checks for single-acting or extend-side calculations, press tonnage estimates, and lift capacity sanity checks before detailed hydraulic circuit design.
Limitations
This is an ideal, static model. It does not account for rod-side annular area (retract force), seal friction, cylinder efficiency, pressure drop in lines, or dynamic acceleration loads. For double-acting cylinders, retract force requires subtracting the rod's cross-sectional area from the bore area.
Privacy first
All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a Dockzio server.
