About the pipe volume calculator

Calculate the internal volume of a straight cylindrical pipe from its inner diameter and length using V = π r² L, with results in liters and US gallons. Add an optional fill percentage to size a partially filled run.

How it works

Diameter and length are converted to meters, the cross-sectional area is computed from the radius, and volume is the area times length. The result then converts to liters and US gallons.

Use the inner diameter

Always enter the inner diameter (bore), not the outer or nominal pipe size. For schedule-rated pipe, check a pipe schedule chart for the actual inside diameter at your wall thickness.

Limitations

This calculator assumes a straight, uniform cylindrical bore. Elbows, reducers, valves, and other fittings add or remove volume that isn't modeled here — treat results as an estimate for a single straight run.

Privacy first

All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a Dockzio server.

FAQ

Quick answers to common questions.

Always use the inner diameter (bore). Using the outer diameter will overstate the volume, especially for thick-walled pipe.
